FAIRsFAIR expands on Science Europe DMP Guidance
FAIRsFAIR has released its guidance document for making more FAIR Data Management Plans.
The guidance is based on that of the January 2021 extended edition of Science Europe's Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management, complemented with guidance from the FAIRAware tool developed by FAIRsFAIR.
The term FAIR refers to making data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Re-usable. By ensuring that research data can more easily be found and used in other research, we can increase the efficiency and value of the research system, and make it easier to replicate results and discover new findings. Science Europe supports the FAIR principles, under the motto that research data should be "as open as possible, as closed as necessary".
In January 2021, Science Europe published the extended edition of its Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management. In addition to the existing guidance for researchers to comply with organisational requirements and the core requirements for Data Management Plans, this extended version also included a rubric to facilitate the evaluation of DMPs.
The FAIRsFAIR project developed FAIR-Aware, a tool intended to help researchers and data managers assess their knowledge about making their datasets FAIR. To support them in implementing the FAIR guidelines into their work, FAIRsFAIR has now taken the Science Europe guidance and complemented it with the guidance provided by the FAIR-Aware tool.
The FAIRsFAIR guidance is available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6088215
Science Europe is very pleased to see its RDM Guide taken up by the community to develop operational guidelines to support researchers in sharing data according to the FAIR principles.
